Montgomery Neighborhood Guide

At the very southern end of Somerset County, bordering on Princeton Township is Montgomery Township.  Comprising about 32 square miles, Montgomery has been experiencing rapid population growth over the past ten years, and now numbers 22,254 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census.  Montgomery tends to look south, toward Princeton, Trenton and Philadelphia, rather than north toward New York City.  The closest commuter station is at Princeton Junction, on the Northeast Corridor Line, with convenient service to both New York and Philadelphia.  Riders can take a shuttle train from Princeton to Princeton Junction.

Montgomery has a reputation for a good school system, with two elementary schools, a lower middle school, an upper middle school and a high school which was completed in 2005. After purchase of the North Princeton Developmental Center from the State of New Jersey, Montgomery renamed its 256 acres Skillman Village and initiated a lively discussion on what to do with the property.  It was finally decided in 2010 to make this area a passive park, and the Somerset County Park Commission agreed to purchase this parcel for a park.

Development of Montgomery is largely residential, with prices skewed toward the higher end of the real estate value spectrum.  Shopping is largely confined to the Route 206/Route 518 intersection in the southern end of the Township.  Proximity to Princeton facilitates shopping in that town’s commercial area around Nassau Square.

For those who value easy access to Princeton, Montgomery is the logical choice.
